Meet Lisa Burtenshaw

Lisa Meikle Burtenshaw has deep roots in Idaho Falls. She attended Dora Erickson and Falls Valley Elementary Schools, South Bonneville Junior High, and graduated from Bonneville High School where she met her future husband, Bryce. After high school, Lisa earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from BYU. She and Bryce spent a few years in Cleveland while he completed dental school, then returned home to Idaho Falls, where they’ve lived in the same neighborhood for the past 23 years.
Lisa is the proud mother of four children, Sydney, Jacob, Josh, and Ethan. Her dedication to the community began with PTO involvement and grew into public service as a trustee for Idaho Falls School District 91. She served on the school board from 2008-2018 including 5 years as the board president. Among her proudest accomplishments is helping lead the rebuilding of four elementary schools: Edgemont, Dora Erickson, Longfellow, and Ethel Boyes.
In November 2021, Lisa was elected to the Idaho Falls City Council. Since joining the council, she has worked to make city government more transparent, accessible, and accountable. She led the creation of a new council priority focused budget process and continued to advocated for ways to help residents more clearly understand how their tax dollars are being used. She also championed community-focused amenities like the new sledding hill at Ryder Park and played a key role in the renovation of the Frontier Center for the Performing Arts—helping breathe new life into one of the city’s cultural cornerstones.
Lisa continues to champion thoughtful growth, transparent governance, and strong partnerships to ensure Idaho Falls remains a vibrant and welcoming place for generations to come.
